Forecasts
Coco Gauff, the reigning champion, could face either Iga Swiatek or Aryna Sabalenka in a potential semifinal, depending on the draw of the tournament. Jessica Pegula could also be a tough quarterfinal opponent for any of the top seeds, as could other contenders such as Emma Navarro, Madison Keys, Anna Kalinskaya or Liudmila Samsonova.
Despite Gauff's recent struggles, which could call into question his ability to defend the title, his familiarity with the Flushing Meadows courts and the support of the home crowd could give him the momentum he needs to overcome these challenges.
In the men's draw, Jannik Sinner, who will finish the tournament as world No. 1 regardless of the result, will not face the usual pressure associated with the top ranking. This could play in his favor during the tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz, champion in 2022, and Daniil Medvedev, last runner-up, are also big favorites in the tournament. Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic could only meet in a hypothetical final, while Alcaraz could face one of them in the semifinals, thus presenting possible dangerous challenges.
Alcaraz is aware that, in the semifinals, he could face Sinner or Djokovic, but the draw still offers many possibilities and the odds are open.
