Euro Qualifying Day Ends with Surprises

|

The most recent Euro 2024 qualification matchday in Germany has left some unexpected results. Here are all the details.

Scotland Leaves Spain in the Field

The biggest surprise of the day was the victory of the Scottish team over the Spanish team. The 2-0 scoreline did not reflect what was an uneven match. Spain controlled the ball for 75% of the match, but could not find the back of the net.

Scott McTominay's two goals in the 7th and 51st minutes sentenced the Spanish national team to second place in Group A. Scotland now leads the group with 6 points. The defeat is a strong wake-up call for the Spanish team after they defeated Norway 3-0.

Kazakhstan Surprises Denmark

The match between Denmark and Kazakhstan went without surprises until the 73rd minute. Denmark had a 2-0 lead, when a penalty kick by Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov reduced the score. Then, goals in the 86th and 89th minutes turned the score completely around, leaving the Danish fans breathless. The final score of 3-2 was completely unexpected, marking one of the biggest surprises of the day.

Rasmus Hojlund scored goals in the 21st and 35th minutes, giving the partial victory to the Danish team. Denmark now finds itself in a 3-point tie with four other teams, creating an extremely complex situation in Group H.

France by the Minimal

In their previous match, the world runners-up defeated the Netherlands by a score of 4-0. However, the French were able to overcome a seemingly inferior team in Ireland by the narrowest of margins. Benjamin Pavard's goal in the 50th minute saved the French team from what would have been a valuable draw for Ireland.

France could not generate their usual game despite the presence of their stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Oliver Giroud. Although France leads group B with 6 points, the next matches could prove to be more pressing than expected.

Ukraine Makes a Formidable Match against England

England's 2-0 win over Ukraine says much more than the final score. The Ukrainian team came out fighting hard, putting up a strong fight against a star-studded English side. Goals from Harry Kane in the 37th minute and Bukayo Saka in the 40th minute were enough for the Three Lions to take the points.

However, the statistics show that Ukraine played better than expected. Ball possession was 58% to 42% for the English while passing effectiveness was equal at 87%. Fouls committed were 12 to 9 in favor of the Ukrainian team. This match was a surprise as the high score that some expected did not happen. England now leads group C with 6 points, while Italy will be strong in the contest with 3 points.
