NFL Week 18: Last Day of the Regular Season

|

This Saturday, January 4 and Sunday, January 5, the final week of the 2024-2025 NFL regular season will take place, with several teams fighting to secure their place in the postseason. Excitement is at an all-time high, as some teams are still fighting for the last available playoff spots.

Here is a breakdown of the most important matches:

Bengals vs. Steelers

One of the divisions that has provided us with the most entertainment is the AFC North, and week 18 will witness the Bengals facing their direct rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in search of a playoff berth. However, postseason hopes also depend on a Broncos loss and a Dolphins loss or tie.

Quarterback Joe Burrow has had an outstanding season with outstanding numbers ranking No. 1 in total touchdowns (42) and No. 1 in total yards (4641) that have put him in the MVP spotlight, which could provide that extra motivation to win what would be his fifth consecutive victory.

The Steelers, despite having secured their ticket to the postseason, have suffered three consecutive losses and will have to decide if they qualify as first in the division and seeded number 3 in the AFC or if that place will go to the Ravens. In order to do so, not only must they win, but Baltimore must also lose their game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Forecast: Cincinnati Bengals -134 to win and Pittsburgh Steelers +113.

Vikings vs. Lions

Sunday Night Football will be the 272nd game to end the regular season but will also decide the deserving No. 1 seed in the NFC. The loser will start the postseason as the fifth seed.

In the last 3 weeks Sam Laporta, Lions Tight End, has recorded a combined 17 receptions for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns becoming a favorite of quarterback Jared Goff. With this outlook there can be no doubting Detroit's ability to put points on the board, but can the injury plagued defense prevent Minnesota from doing the same?

The Vikings, on the other hand, are riding a 9-game winning streak and will want to keep their streak alive, but also overcome the loss to Detroit in Week 7 when they fell 31-29.

Forecast: Detroit Lions to win -145 and Minnesota Vikings +125.

Other Scenarios

The Eagles will be the only team that can rest their starting lineup as their win against the Cowboys secured them the number 2 seed. For the time being, Saquon Barkley has been confirmed to be rested and thus will not break Eric Dickerson's record with just 100 yards to go.

The Rams who started the season 1-4 have clinched a spot in the postseason by securing the top seed in the NFC West. To maintain the No. 3 seed, the Los Angeles Rams must either beat the Seattle Seahawks or have the Bucs lose to New Orleans.

The Packers would be traveling to Philadelphia to play for the Wild Card unless they beat Chicago and the Commanders lose to Dallas.

The Buccaneers could clinch their division with a win against the Saints or a Falcons loss to the Panthers. If the Bucs win and the Rams lose, Tampa Bay avoids a Wild Card matchup against the loser Vikings-Lions, and instead faces the Commanders or Packers.

Denver would clinch their berth if they beat the Kansas City Chiefs who will start with the bench. However, this is not a guarantee as coach Andy Reid has rested his star players 4 times in the last week and has won in 2 of those occasions.

A Broncos loss would give the Dolphins a chance to qualify if they beat the Jets, despite their disastrous 2-6 start.

No matter where you stand in the standings, every game in this final week is loaded with adrenaline and excitement. Don't miss the final regular season matchups and get ready for a postseason that promises to be unforgettable!

Remember that the lines are dynamic and can change.
