Como Re-establishes Its Win Against Udinese

|

Como celebrated a crucial win in their fight to stay in Serie A by beating Udinese 4-1. This result not only marked their first win of the year, but also snapped a winless streak, allowing the team to pull away from the relegation places.

Under the guidance of Cesc Fàbregas, the Lombardy side showed a significant improvement in their play, with Assane Diao, Gabriel Strefezza and Nico Paz all making important contributions.

First Half Dominant As

From the start of the match, Como made it clear that they were ready to reverse their poor run. The first big chance came through Assane Diao, who, thanks to a leaked pass from Gabriel Strefezza, opened the scoring with a precise shot that beat the opposing goalkeeper. This early goal gave the team confidence and set the tone for the rest of the first half.

A few minutes before the end of the first half, the Brazilian Strefezza was again the protagonist, extending the lead with an impeccable cross-shot. Como kept the pressure high, neutralizing Udinese's attempts to generate danger.

Despite the advantage, the opposing goalkeeper managed to prevent the score from being even higher before halftime.

A Second Half Full Of Excitement

Udinese returned to the pitch with greater intensity at the start of the second half. This paid off when Martin Payero scored for the visitors, closing the gap and creating uncertainty on the scoreboard.

However, the match soon turned chaotic with two dismissals in the space of a few minutes. Edoardo Goldaniga left Como with ten men after receiving a second yellow, but the numerical advantage did not last long as Udinese's Oumar Solet was sent off shortly after for a similar foul.

With the match level in numbers, Como took back control of the game. In the 78th minute, a cross from the left flank caused confusion in the Udinese defense, resulting in an own goal by Jaka Bijol as he tried to clear the ball. This mistake was a decisive blow for the visiting team, which was unable to recover.

In the final minutes, Nico Paz, who had come on as a substitute after recovering from injury, sealed the victory with an accurate header. This goal, Como's fourth, capped a key match for the home side, who celebrated a standing ovation from their fans at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia stadium.

A Firm Step Toward Salvation

This result represents a great relief for Como, which had started 2025 with unfavorable results, including a draw against Lazio and a loss to Milan. With this victory, the team manages to distance itself three points from the relegation zone, positioning itself in the middle of the Serie A table.

The performances of Assane Diao and Gabriel Strefezza stand out as a reflection of the team's potential, while the addition of Nico Paz brings added value in both quality and squad depth. The impact of the winter transfer window has also been evident, providing new tactical options for Fabregas, who has been able to adjust the pieces to maximize his team's performance.

In contrast, Udinese face a complicated panorama. Although they had drawn their first three games of the year, this defeat exposes their defensive shortcomings and lack of effectiveness at key moments. With this result, the team remains stuck in the table and will have to rethink its strategy to avoid complications in the second half of the season.

Como, for their part, have shown that they have the tools to compete and remain among the elite of Italian soccer. Their solid performance against Udinese is a sign that, with constant work and determination, they can establish themselves as a competitive team in Serie A.

Lombardy fans now have reason to dream of a season that will end far from relegation, thanks to this resurgence led by the experience of Fabregas and the young talent in the squad.
