The Last 25 Years with Betcris

|

Over the past 25 years, global sports have generated a steady stream of data-driven milestones, with measurable dominance, record-breaking performances, and historic results defining this era. In soccer, the UEFA Champions League , the Premier League , the Bundesliga , and Latin American football have delivered momentous achievements.

Between 2014 and 2022, Real Madrid won five Champions League titles , cementing their most dominant run of the modern era. Cristiano Ronaldo scored 105 goals in the competition for Real Madrid, becoming the Champions League's all-time top scorer.

Lionel Messi followed him closely with a total of 129 goals and was instrumental in FC Barcelona's titles in 2009 and 2011, both under Pep Guardiola. The 2005 Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan remains the most stunning comeback in the history of the tournament, with Liverpool recovering from 3–0 down at halftime to win on penalties.

In England, Manchester United claimed their 20th league title in 2013, their last under Sir Alex Ferguson. Manchester City began a new phase of dominance by winning the 2011–12 Premier League, securing the title on goal difference thanks to Sergio Agüero's injury-time goal against QPR.

Under Guardiola, City won six league titles between 2018 and 2024, including a domestic treble in 2018–19. Leicester City stunned the football world in the 2015–16 season by winning the title at odds of 5000 to 1, with Jamie Vardy setting a record by scoring in 11 consecutive matches.

In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich won 11 consecutive titles between 2013 and 2023. Robert Lewandowski broke Gerd Müller's all-time record by scoring 41 goals in the 2020–21 season. Borussia Dortmund, under Jürgen Klopp, won the league in 2011 and 2012 and reached the Champions League final in 2013, losing to Bayern in an all-German final at Wembley.

Latin American clubs also achieved significant milestones. Boca Juniors reached six Copa Libertadores finals between 2000 and 2012, winning the title four times. Flamengo staged a dramatic comeback in the 2019 final, scoring two late goals to beat River Plate, and were crowned champions again in 2022.

On the international stage, Argentina broke a 28-year drought by winning the Copa América in 2021, followed by the FIFA World Cup title in 2022, led by Messi. Furthermore, Messi became the first player to win the World Cup Ballon d'Or twice, in 2014 and 2022.

Brazil won its fifth World Cup in 2002 , with Ronaldo scoring eight goals in the tournament. Cafu became the only player to appear in three consecutive World Cup finals (1994, 1998, 2002).

The Major Leagues Continue to Surprise

In Major League Baseball (MLB), the home run era reached its peak in 2001 when Barry Bonds hit 73 home runs, a season record that still stands. He finished his career with 762 home runs, the most in MLB history.

Albert Pujols joined the 700-homer club in 2022, finishing with 703 home runs and 2,218 RBIs. That same year, Aaron Judge set a new American League record by hitting 62 home runs, surpassing Roger Maris' mark of 61 set in 1961. Judge also led the MLB in home runs, RBIs, and runs scored, the first Yankee since Mickey Mantle to accomplish this feat.

On the mound, Clayton Kershaw posted nine seasons with a sub-3.00 ERA from 2009-17, won three Cy Young Awards, and was the 2014 NL MVP. He surpassed 2,800 strikeouts by 2024. Justin Verlander threw three no-hitters (2007, 2011, 2019), surpassed 3,000 career strikeouts, and won Cy Young Awards in 2011, 2019, and 2022. Max Scherzer won three Cy Young Awards, recorded 20 strikeouts in one game in 2016, and surpassed 3,400 strikeouts by 2024.

The Boston Red Sox broke an 86-year-old curse by winning their first title since 1918 in 2004. They became the only MLB team to come back from an 0–3 postseason series deficit, defeating the Yankees in the ALCS before sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years by defeating the Cleveland Guardians 8–7 in a 10-inning Game 7. The Houston Astros were crowned champions in 2017 and 2022; the latter series included a combined no-hitter in Game 4 against the Phillies, the second in World Series history.

The NBA Is Not the Same Anymore

In the NBA, LeBron James became the all-time leading scorer in 2023, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He remains the only player with over 10,000 points, rebounds, and assists. He won four NBA championships (2012, 2013, 2016, 2020) and in 2023, at 38 years old, became the oldest player to record a 40-point triple-double.

Stephen Curry transformed the modern game with his three-point shooting, becoming the all-time leading three-point shooter with 402 in a single season in 2015–16. He won MVP awards in 2015 and 2016, the latter being the first unanimous MVP in league history.

Kobe Bryant's 81-point game in 2006 remains the second-highest single-game scoring mark. In his final game in 2016, he scored 60 points and retired with five NBA titles. The Golden State Warriors won championships in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Their 73–9 record in the 2015–16 regular season remains the best in NBA history. Under Steve Kerr, the Warriors became the dominant dynasty of the 2010s.

Miami's "Big Three" era led the Heat to four consecutive Finals appearances (2011–2014), with titles in 2012 and 2013. The San Antonio Spurs, with Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich, won championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. Popovich became the winningest coach in the regular season in 2022.

Dirk Nowitzki was the first European player to surpass 30,000 points and led Dallas to the title in 2011, being the Finals MVP. Russell Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson's triple-double record in 2021 and became the first player to average a triple-double in three consecutive seasons (2017–2019). Giannis Antetokounmpo won MVP awards in 2019 and 2020, and led the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 title with 50 points in Game 6.

Across soccer, Major League Baseball, and the NBA, the past 25 years have been defined by numerical supremacy, statistical milestones, and historic performances. This era has been marked by data-driven greatness, measurable transformations, and an unprecedented number of world-class performances.
