Colts, Patriots Clash in Germany

|

The Indianapolis Colts, who are 4-5, face the 2-7 New England Patriots in a series with a 4-5 record. NFL Frankfurt Games on Sunday morning in Germany. The Colts picked up a win on the road against the Carolina Panthers last week. The Patriots suffered a home loss to the Washington Commanders in their last meeting. Last season, the Patriots posted a 26-3 win over the Colts.

Colts Look for Winning Streak

The Colts come into this game with confidence. Indianapolis had lost three straight games, including two home losses, but bounced back last week. They suffered an ugly 38-27 loss at home to the New Orleans Saints in week eight and were 1.5-point favorites in a dominant 27-13 road win over the Panthers last week.

The team is now one game below .500 and 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. The Colts have covered the spread in two of their last three games. The team has Gardner Minshew at quarterback, as rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is on the injured list.

Minshew has been productive. The 27-year-old has reached 300 yards per pass in two of his last four games and has amassed 1527 yards per pass along with an 8:5 TD to INT ratio.

The Colts have a solid ground game that ranks 10th. Zack Moss has topped 100 yards on the ground twice this season and accumulated 615.

Jonathan Taylor has only played in four games due to injury and has the ability to carry an offense. The 24-year-old has 254 yards on the ground with an average of 4.1 yards per carry. Michael Pittman Jr. is thriving, with 18 receptions in his last three games.

The 26-year-old receiver has recorded 593 yards receiving. Indianapolis' offense has been solid, averaging an impressive 30 points in its last three games.

The Colts defense is struggling. They are near the bottom in many categories and have wasted at least 30 points four times this season.

There have been some notable performances, including a 22-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The defense had one of its best performances of the season last week, allowing just 275 total yards.

Defense against the pass is ranked 23rd, while defense against the run is marked 24th.

Indianapolis is scoring an average of 25.8 points on the season, placing them seventh. The defense is allowing an average of 26.9 points, ranking them 28th.

Patriots Seek Consistency

The Patriots need wins. The team is having a disastrous season due to an offense that continues to struggle to generate points. The two wins on the season came in week three in a 15-10 win over the New York Jets and a surprising 29-25 home win over the Buffalo Bills in late October.

The Patriots have lost two straight games since then, losing to the Miami Dolphins and were tagged as three-point favorites in a 20-17 home loss to the Commanders last week.

Mac Jones is having a rough season but has improved a bit recently. The 25-year-old quarterback recorded 270 yards per pass in the win against the Bills but is prone to mistakes, throwing five interceptions in his last five games. Jones has racked up 1861 yards per pass accompanied by a 10:9 TD to INT ratio.

New England's offense doesn't run much. Rhamondre Stevenson has yet to reach 100 yards in a game, but he ran for nearly 90 yards last week. The 25-year-old running back has accumulated 394 yards on the ground with a 3.7 yards per carry average on the season.

The receiver group is below average. Kendrick Bourne has been a highlight, leading the team with over 400 yards receiving, but is on the injured list.

Demario Douglas will be key. The rookie receiver has accumulated 277 yards receiving. He was limited in practice this week and is questionable. New England's offense has been abysmal, scoring 20 points or less in all but one game.

The Patriots defense is competitive and at times has kept them in games. The group allowed 25 points in the win against the Bills and gave up 432 total yards against the Commanders last week.

They were exploited through the air by Sam Howell and that has been a trend this season. The Pats rank 21st in defense against the pass, while the defense against the run is solid, ranking 11th.
