Lakers Overtake Grizzlies

|

D'Angelo Russell scored 24 points and Anthony Davis had 19 points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots in the Los Angeles Lakers' third straight 134-107 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA TOURNAMENT Regular Season Tournament on Tuesday night

James Led Los Angeles Offense

LeBron James added 16 points and nine rebounds playing just 23 minutes for the Lakers, who improved to 5-0 at home and 2-0 in the tournament with their first comfortable win of the season.

Russell made six of the Lakers' franchise-record 22 three-pointers, and Austin Reaves made four by scoring 16 points with 12 rebounds and seven assists.

After facing repeated shooting problems through the first 10 games of the season, Los Angeles hit 58% of its shots against the Grizzlies and made 62.9% of its three-pointers in outrebounding Memphis 54-33.

James commented that it is not desirable to find yourself in the situation of having problems when the team is performing exceptionally well in shooting.

James also expressed the desire to contribute and be part of that success. He emphasized that it was an excellent night in terms of hits for the team and considered the victory a positive one.

Rui Hachimura scored 12 of his 23 points in the final quarter for Los Angeles, which had not won a game by more than six points before jumping out to a 31-point lead over the shorthanded Grizzlies in the second half.

Hachimura explained that all the shooting opportunities were conducive, and the team took advantage of them efficiently. He emphasized that the defensive focus on LeBron and AD facilitated the creation of favorable shooting opportunities for the team.

Santi Aldama scored a career-high 24 points for the Grizzlies, who lost two more players to injuries as they failed to follow up their upset win over the Clippers on Sunday with their third victory of the season.

Memphis Still Battling With Results

Marcus Smart left the court in the first quarter with a left ankle injury and did not return. The veteran shooting guard had difficulty putting weight on his foot after landing awkwardly on Reaves' foot. Smart will be re-evaluated when Memphis returns home.

Luke Kennard also missed the second half with left knee discomfort for the Grizzlies, who made 20 three-pointers but struggled to score in the paint against a defensive effort led by Davis.

Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins noted that while they face challenges, they will not accept excuses. He stressed the importance of adopting a "next man up" mentality, showing resilience, fight and care.

He affirmed that these elements are present and although the current results are not as expected, he is confident of more promising days to come.

Jenkins emphasized the cyclical nature of injuries, acknowledging that they are building up at the moment, but urged the team to persevere and overcome, keeping the focus on the ongoing fight.

The teams received a total of five technical fouls in the first quarter after Davis and Aldama tangled under the hoop.

After Davis scored, Aldama grabbed the ball and came up to Davis, who responded by shoving the Spaniard. Desmond Bane then tackled Davis, and Russell pushed Bane. Jenkins also received a technical foul.

Los Angeles then went into halftime with a 74-51 lead in its highest scoring first half of the season, with Davis racking up 15 points and eight rebounds.

James returned after missing Sunday's win over Portland to rest his injured shin, but Los Angeles played without Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt.
