NBA Draft Expectations

|

With the lottery of the Draft now begins the speculation about future selections. Here are all the details.

Wembanyama and San Antonio Are Made for Each Other

As has happened in few drafts, there is no doubt who will be the first pick. French star Victor Wembanyama has generated so much attention that the other 31 teams view their draft with disappointment. The San Antonio Spurs were fortunate enough to keep the first pick, leaving little room for doubt as to whether they will select Wembanyama.

However, the question is, is San Antonio the best team for Wembanyama? The answer seems to be a clear yes. The Spurs have a good track record with their first round picks (David Robinson and Tim Duncan). Both Robinson and Duncan came in with high expectations. The Spurs did their thing by turning them into stars.

Now, history is repeating itself with Wembanyama. Unless San Antonio shocks the NBA world and takes another player with the first pick, all indications are that Wembanyama will be playing in San Antonio next season. While it is premature to consider that San Antonio will be a contender next season, expectations are high that the Spurs will soon return to relevance.

And the Second Selection?

On the other hand, the second pick has received little attention. The Charlotte Hornets have their hands on the second pick, but an uncertainty as to who would be the best choice. So far, all indications are that NBA G League center Scoot Henderson will be the second pick.

At 19, Henderson has proven he can play at the professional level. Meanwhile, his arrival in Charlotte would have a direct impact on the club, particularly with potential running mate LaMelo Ball.

It's worth mentioning that Charlotte has pieces to create a contending team for next season, so Henderson could be the key piece. Charlotte still has work to do in the offseason. However, selecting Henderson would be a very good start.

The Doubt Is in the Third

The Portland Trail Blazers are in a complex situation. While they possess the third pick, there is no key player at the position. Considering there is no question about Wembanyama, and Charlotte takes Scoot Henderson, that would leave Brandon Miller as the best candidate for the third spot.

Miller finished his time at the University of Alabama with a less than impressive NCAA tournament. His lack of significance has affected his ranking, dropping him from second to third or perhaps fourth.

However, Miller has the talent to be an impact player. At 20 years old, he has the size, age and experience to make a positive impact from day one. That's why the Trail Blazers should keep Miller. Unless Charlotte feels that Miller is a better option for them than Henderson, there is no doubt that Miller would be the best option for Portland.
