NBA Playoffs Are on Fire

|

The second round of the postseason in the NBA is red hot. Here are the latest details:

Harden Rescues 76ers

After James Harden had the two worst back-to-back shooting games of his career in Games 2 and 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics, coach Doc Rivers decided to remind his star point guard who he is before Game 4.

Apparently, the talk worked. Harden not only finished with a spectacular line, 42 points on 16-of-23 shooting, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, along with eight rebounds, nine assists, four steals, one block and just one turnover in 47 minutes.

He also made the shot that evened the score in the final seconds of regulation before burying a three-pointer from the corner with 19 seconds left to lead Philadelphia to an impressive 116-115 overtime victory Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center.

This titanic Eastern Conference showdown now returns to Boston for Game 5 on Tuesday, tied at two games apiece, and it does so because Harden rediscovered the magic he had in Game 1, when he scored 45 points to lead Philadelphia to a win without Joel Embiid. The 76ers will need more impressive performances from Harden to advance to the next round.

James and the Lakers Remain in the Fray

The Golden State Warriors' 127-97 loss Saturday to the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 3 meant that, for the second consecutive series, Los Angeles started with a win, followed by a loss and then responded with another win to go up 2-1.

With Los Angeles seemingly on a roller coaster, losing by 27 on Thursday only to win by 30 two days later, LeBron James is motivating his teammates to ignore the outside noise that comes after every game result.

While the Lakers' lack of consistency has been a concern this postseason, James expects his teammates to focus and do their thing. For now, Los Angeles expects James, along with Anthony Davis, to lead the club into the next round, knocking off the champions.

Butler with Heroic Effort

Jimmy Butler returned from a right ankle injury to lead the Miami Heat over the New York Knicks by a score of 105-86 in Game 3 to give Miami a 2-games-to-1 lead. Butler was out for Game 2, but returned for Game 3 with 28 points.

Butler's status was up in the air, but he felt good enough to play. Boy, did he. The Heat desperately needed those 28 points to put the Knicks in trouble.

However, Miami fans held their breath momentarily when, in the third quarter, Butler appeared limping after a collision with a prop on the court. The hit went no further and Butler concluded his performance.

Butler is expected to be in the lineup for Game 4. It remains to be seen how far Butler's ankle can go and the Heat's aspirations. All signs point to the fact that this season could be significant for Miami.
